GAACS is a database designed to support all the various parties involved in the movement of goods. Within this database the goods are represented as a PoG (Package of Goods), and they can be anything from an envelope to multiple containers.
GAACS is designed to support the activities that occur when goods are to be imported. Originating at the purchaser, this continues through the supplier, forwarding agents, receiving agents and ends back to the purchaser.
During this cycle additional information is being added and retained electronically. GAACS has been designed to support these different parties in the activities they incur.
With GAACS each of the parties involved is able to connect to a shared database, in effect they maintain the data they originate, this in turns informs the next party in the cycle of activity they can contribute in.
